Physical exercises are often viewed as a tool to improve one’s fitness, but did you know keeping fit has profound benefits to mental and emotional health as well? Recent research shows that those people who are in poor physical shape in their teenage are twice likely to commit suicide when they get to adulthood. Regular exercise help in the production of neurochemicals like dopamine and serotonin which buffer some of the effects of stress and also relieve some symptoms of depression. In addition to that, regular exercises are also known to treat depression, which is a major factor for suicide. Regular execises also work better than antidepressant drugs which if used in excess can intensify suicidal and homicidal thoughts and behaviours.

Alcohol and abuse of other drugs has also been linked to cause suicidal thoughts since they may lead to depression. In fact, it is estimated that around 90 per cent of people who commit suicide are in this category. Exercise may certainly e very helpful in this category of people, as it frequently outperforms antidepressant drugs. So why commit suicide while you can keep fit and live long?
