Every Little Helps!

Have you ever heard the little story of Mr. Little? For your ready reference the story is given below.
Mr. Little lived in a little house in a little town and he worked for a very little salary. The neighbours wondered how Mr. Little and the whole Little family could get along on such a small salary. He was asked, “Mr. Little, How do you, Mrs. Little and the seven little Littles get along on such a little salary?”
He replied, “Every Little helps!”
Yes, every little helps in everybody’s life. A famous Tamil proverb often quoted is: ‘Small drops make ocean’!

The famous Ganges originates from Gangotri. It is situated at a height of 10,319 feet.
The most sacred river of Hindus originates as little drops! Then Mother Ganges comes out of a crevice and falls as a cascade, twenty feet high, into an egg shaped place.

From Himalayas it flows 1567 miles southeastward across an immense undulating plain.
The Ganges drainage basin covers an area of around 376,800 square miles, roughly a quarter of the Indian Subcontinent. Flowing through one of the world’s most densely populated areas; the Ganges carries an enormous cargo of sediments at an annual average of 2.4 billion tonnes that is more than any other river!

Greatness comes from little things!

Here is a story from The Bustan of Sadi: “A rain drop fell from a spring cloud, and, seeing the wide expanse of the sea, was ashamed. ‘Where is the sea’, it is reflected, “where I am? Compared with that, forsooth, I am extinct.”
While thus regarding itself with an eye of contempt, an oyster took it to its bosom, and fate so shaped its course that eventually the raindrop became a famous royal pearl.
It was exalted, for it was humble. Knocking at the door of extinction, it became existent.
Orison Swett Marden quotes Gothe and Sydney Smith in his book ‘Cheerfulness’ to emphasize a few good points.

“One ought, every day,” says Gothe, “at least to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and, if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words”
Sydney Smith recommends us to make at least one person happy every day: “Take ten years, and you will make thirty- six hundred and fifty persons happy: or brighten a small town by your contribution to the fund of general joy.”
Every great journey starts with a small step. Why don’t you start now?

Thoughts Determine Your Success

Swami Vivekananda teaches: “We are what our thoughts made us; so take care what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live, they travel far. Each thought we think is tinged with our character, so that for the pure and holy man, even his jest or abuse will have the twist of his own love and purity and do good.”

The inward state of blessedness can be cultivated by cultivating the mind by proper thoughts. The mind is to be trained to create, entertain, and perpetuate only right mental states. You have to give every thought you think the tendency and the power to promote your own individual purpose of life.

James Allen in his book, ‘From Poverty to Power’ narrates an interesting incident:
‘I know a lady who has entered into many blissful satisfactions, and recently a friend remarked to her, “Oh! How fortunate you are! You only have to wish for a thing, and it comes to you”. And it did, indeed appear so on the surface; but in reality all the blessedness that has entered into this woman’s life is the direct outcome of the inward state of blessedness which she has, throughout life, been cultivating and training toward perfection.’

Our dominant trends of thought determine our success or our failure.Buddha declared: “We are what we think. With our thoughts we make the world.”

So think positively. This should become a life time habit. And definitely in course of time all the silent forces will work and bring what one wants. It is worth remembering the famous quote:
“The heights by great men reached and kept,
Were not attained by sudden flight, but they,
while their companions slept,
Were toiling upward in the night”

Think Positively to Get Whatever You Want

 S.Nagarajan

Each and every thought of ours is producing a definite form. Has it been proved?

The famous American, Ted Serios had produced ‘thoughtograph’ as they are called since 1955 and had undergone dozens of investigations including one by the magazine, Life. Ted Serios’s thought pictures were photographed according to the issue dated 30-10-67 of Life. He became the subject of the book, ‘The World of Ted Serios’ written by a reputable Denver psychiatrist named Dr. Jule Eisenbud. The book interprets 80 thoughtographs made by Serios and reports on the years of exhaustive testing. To reduce

the chances of trickery, Eisenbud requested him to turn out pictures while stripped nude, and even with an encephalograph wired to his scalp. He was also asked to produce pictures both inside a shielded metal chamber and through heavy panes of lead-impregnated glass- and he did.Dozens of scientific experts called in by Eisunbud to witness his feverish sessions and they confessed that they were baffled. Hindus are conversant with the idea of thought form and they have a deity by name Chitragupta who is keeping an account of each and everybody’s thoughts and the forms produced by them!

Yoga Vasistha is one of the greatest expositions of the subtle principles of Yoga. The Scripture analyses various aspects of mind, thought, consciousness etc. It categorically declares that,” Our actions and achievements are in accordance with the thought and having enjoyed the fruits of our action we get bound to them. The thought that one entertains repeatedly issues forth in the branches of impulses and actions”.Positive thoughts produces positive results and negative thought produces negative results. In their famous book, “Psychic Discoveries behind the Iron Curtain,’ Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Schroder explain the various scientific experiments carried out in Russia with Yuri Kamensky, a biophysicist.Four important points are worth mentioning.

1) “In one particularly good series , the versatile Kamensky gave up his role as sender to the student Alex Monin. Kamensky himself received. Short, mean bursts of emotion came from Monin. He concentrated on the anxiety of suffocation. He imagined a racking attack of asthma, then a chocking fit. Monin sent each feeling blast nine times. In isolation, Kamensky felt and became consciously aware of the particular emotions in 80 percent of the trials.

2) Karl Nikolaiev , Kamensky’s partner said, “There is one kind of test really I hate- the tests with negative emotions. They sometime make me sick for hours”

3) “Negative emotions have a bleak effect on your physiology as well as your psychology. Cheerful, “positive thinking” helps the body itself recoup. Drs.Pavlova, Sergeyev, and Naumov uncovered impressive data on the powers of thought. It seems you don’t even have to boil of your own nasty thoughts. Some one else can cook them up and send them to you.

4) Untelepathically, the Soviets already knew that thought could reach right down to your blood cells. In 1956, Drs. S. Serov and A Troskin of Sverdlovsk demonstrated that the number of white blood cells rose

by fifteen hundred after they suggested positive emotion to patients. After impressing negative emotion, the white cells decreased by sixteen hundred. White blood cells, or leukocytes, are one of the body’s main defenses against disease.

Charles Gilbert Davis in his book,

The Philosophy of Life’ says: “It is absolutely true that every thought we think has its corresponding effect on the whole or some part of human anatomy. Much has been said or written on this subject, yet from my observation as a physician I must say that I am astounded that it has not received a deeper consideration. Not a day passes that I do not see wonderful illustrations of this fact: that the mind can both create and cure disease”.

From all of the above facts, one can easily understand that thoughts are seeds. If we could sow positive, helpful thoughts, we could reap corresponding benefits. Hence think positively to get whatever you want!

SUCCESS IN YOUR POCKET!

M R Kopmeyer, in his book, ’How you can get richer, quicker’ suggests us to write down our ideas in  3” x 5”” cards and carry them in our pocket. Ideas in 3” x 5”” cards are for re-reading and study.

Frank Bettger in his book, “How I raised Myself From Failure to Success in Selling” reveals his pocket reminder technique: “I made up a 3” x 5”” card, a ‘pocket reminder’, for each one of my subjects, with a brief summary of the principles. The first week, I carried the card Enthusiasm in my pocket. At odd moments during the day, I read these principles.”

Edison had a sign on his laboratory wall which read- There is a better way to do it –Find it”

All successful people used to have pocket reminders and motivational slogans.

We can write down success techniques in small cards and carry them wherever we go.

2 Reasons Of Why You Should Not Think About Suicide
Over the past 13 years, the rates of suicide cases have equally continued to rise in both male and female, especially the young generation. According to the suicide rate control and bureau of statistics, the suicide rates among people aged between 54 to 64 years have reduced from 54 per cent to 15 per cent. Suicide rate among women in their teenage and early 20s has jumped over the same period compared to men in the same age brackets. The cause of suicide cases have been linked to deteriorating quality of life, lack of motivation and chronic health problems among the middle aged. Suicidal thoughts should not be associated to a character of defect; it simply means that the person is in pain that they cannot cope with. Here are some reasons why you should never think about suicide:
Keeping Fit
Physical exercises are often viewed as a tool to improve one’s fitness, but did you know keeping fit has profound benefits to mental and emotional health as well? Recent research shows that those people who are in poor physical shape in their teenage are twice likely to commit suicide when they get to adulthood. Regular exercise help in the production of neurochemicals like dopamine and serotonin which buffer some of the effects of stress and also relieve some symptoms of depression. In addition to that, regular exercises are also known to treat depression, which is a major factor for suicide. Regular execises also work better than antidepressant drugs which if used in excess can intensify suicidal and homicidal thoughts and behaviours.
Alcohol and abuse of other drugs has also been linked to cause suicidal thoughts since they may lead to depression. In fact, it is estimated that around 90 per cent of people who commit suicide are in this category. Exercise may certainly e very helpful in this category of people, as it frequently outperforms antidepressant drugs. So why commit suicide while you can keep fit and live long?
How To Cope With Suicidal Thoughts And Feelings
Suicidal thoughts and feeling may seem like a permanent condition, but there are some ways that may help to cope with suicidal feelings. The following are ways of how to cope with suicidal thoughts and feelings:
1. Talk to someone every day and if possible, face to face. Suicidal thoughts come in handy with withdrawal, but whenever the suicidal feelings come knocking, the person should try and spend sometimes with friends and close members. A crisis helpline call should also work since there are always people on the other end to answer the call.
2. Bask in the sun or take some nature walks for at-least 1 hour a day.
3. Make and remember your personal goals. Participating in volunteering work and learning new hobbies will keep suicidal thoughts at bay.Experiencing suicidal feelings can be a traumatizing experience and even though the thoughts and feelings may subsidize, it always pertinent to find or join a support group. A therapist will also help a suicidal person in decreasing the chances that they will feel suicidal again in the future.

Healthy Eating Habits

Most people need a healthy eating plan because they want to lose weight or change their eating habits. Whichever the goal is, this can be overwhelming, especially when it involves something that you do every day. Starting something new always comes with its challenges and following a healthy eating plan is not an exception. Always focus on a day at a time.

Follow a Healthy Eating Plan

The first rule about dieting is distinguishing between real food and junk food. Food that grew from the ground or ran on land, flew through the air or came out of the sea is referred to as real food. As of junk food, anything that comes from a drive-through window, a wrapper, a vending machine or in a box and with an ingredient list way longer than ‘A Game of Thrones’ fits the description “junk.” As such, a good healthy eating plan includes foods such as fruits, nuts, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. Others foods are seafood, low-fat dairy, and lean meats. In fact, healthy dieting tends to replace highly processed foods that contain lots of calories and fats with more nutritious alternatives.

Take Baby Steps

As earlier mentioned, making changes is challenging, and it is important to do it gradually. This is because your primary goal is establishing new eating habits for life. A good way to start these steps is by changing what your shop as food. Stock your refrigerator and cupboard with healthy foods, and get used to preparing healthier meals at home. Add to the chase a new cookbook or magazine with healthy cuisines to make sure you have a variety of family recipes to try out besides what you already know.

Set Realistic Goals

Most people who go for dieting come up with all sorts of lofty goals, including fitting into certain cloth sizes. One thing that you must understand is losing even five percent of your body weight changes how you feel and improves your health. Keeping this in mind, set attainable healthy dieting goals. It is recommended that you only lose up to two pounds each week. This is very rewarding because you are not pushing too hard even as you are adjusting to your new healthy eating habits. However, in as much as it may sound as success all through, at some point, you might fall off the wagon, and this is common for almost everyone. It is good to anticipate such slip-ups so that you are always ready to brush yourself off and get back on track. Each time you face a slip-up, make it your agenda to handle your situation without necessarily compromising your sobriety. Try to create a balance of 80 percent win over 20 percent lose throughout this period.

A good example of a healthy eating plan would be doing hot oatmeal and chopped fruits in the morning then following it up with whole-wheat pita containing hummus for lunch; you could add tomatoes and raw spinach to the lunch. Finish up with brown rice and tofu vegetable stir-fry for dinner. You could also do a snack like yogurt with nuts or berries. Get the best out of good eating habits for a healthy lifestyle.

The Problem We’ve All Had
On our respective journeys to fitness, nearly every one of us will eventually find ourselves frustrated by week after week of plateaued progress. Whether you are not getting any stronger or not getting any leaner, this kind of stall can leave you feeling like the last thing you want to do is slog through another workout or eat another skinless chicken breast. A lack of motivation in the face of a fitness plateau is one of the most common reasons people drop their workouts from their schedules. And who can blame them? It seems pretty reasonable that you would want to give up on something that’s not working. What is it that causes our progress to halt, anyway?

The Causes We Don’t Consider
Fitness plateaus can be caused by a number of things. Perhaps by working out alone, you are not pushing yourself as hard as you think you are. It could be the opposite, that you have been over-training and pushed your body too far. It may be that you have a hard time getting to the gym, whether that is because it’s too far away from your home, work or school to be convenient, or because you are just bored to death of the same old routine at the same old gym. There’s a possibility you’re simply not challenging yourself enough, and so not experiencing any growth. If you’ve had an injury in the recent past, a failure to properly rest and allow it to completely recover could also hinder your progress. These are just a few possible reasons for plateau, and this list shows that, with so many possible reasons to lose motivation, it’s something everyone can empathize with. You’re not alone!

What To Do To Find Your Motivation Again
The solutions to a fitness plateau are as varied as the causes, so don’t despair, there is one that will work for you! You might find that your progress (and with it your motivation) pick right back up again if you start going to the gym with a friend. You may find that a low-intensity rest week recharges your batteries and makes you happy to be back at the gym. You might benefit from getting out of the gym altogether, and trying some new and different activities like hiking, a martial arts class, or a hip hop dance class. Of course, sometimes a plateau or drop in motivation can be health related, and so you might consider going to the doctor for a check-up, just to make sure everything is in good condition. If you’re not sure what the cause of your plateau is, this list might seem daunting, and it’s true that it might take you some time to pin it down. So be kind to yourself, and remember that a fitness plateau is so common that we could probably rightfully call it a rite of passage. You will make it through your rite of passage and come out the other side.

Be yourself – and love it!
Are you always comparing yourself to other people – unfavourably? It’s all too common for people to look at others, whether celebrities or people that you know in person, and wish that you were as stunning as they are, had their intelligence, or lived in a lovely house like theirs. Well, stop right now. That’s a terrible waste of the wonderful, unique person that you are. Happiness really does come from within, and learning how to be content with yourself. While there’s nothing wrong with wanting to do better, comparisons with others make you unhappy and feel inadequate. Instead, strive to be the best version of yourself that you possibly can. Possessions and looks don’t make us happy. What does? Having friends with whom you can be yourself and don’t need to put on an act, or enjoying the things that you do have. This gives you the capacity to be truly content.
Why comparing yourself with others doesn’t work
The problem with comparing yourself to others is that it sets you up for failure. You look at their perfect lives and convince yourself that if you only had their money or looks, your life would be better. This fails on two counts: one, that you are not them and won’t be, and two, that you don’t actually know what’s going on in their lives or in their head. They could be just as full of self-doubts as you are! Besides, their perfect lifestyle may be funded by borrowing, meaning that they’re in huge debt. The media encourages us to aspire to the unachievable lifestyles of celebrities, making us unhappy because we know that we’ll never experience the excitement of their lives. But why do we not dedicate our energies instead to achieving our own goals? Rather than dwelling on impossibilities, focus on training yourself to be content with your life, and working on getting where you want to be in life. That will lead to a far more fulfilling existence, as you will be giving your energy to more positive things than dreaming about impossibilities.
Live your own life – to the max
The fact is that you are the equal of anyone on earth. You’re just as worthwhile as the rich and famous that you may yearn to be like. Why put pressure on yourself and try to compete in a race that you need not be part of? You will be much happier within yourself if you stop trying to be like others, and instead work on building your inner contentment. While there’s nothing wrong with having ambitions and wanting a better life, our existence shouldn’t be about competition, but about enjoying our lives and finding true fulfilment within ourselves. We have so much that cannot be bought, if we only learn to appreciate it. So start today to value what you have in your life, such as family, friends, and your achievements. You have more than you realise!
Why we become depressed and how to beat it ..
Anyone can suffer from depression, at any age or stage in life. Many factors can contribute to depression including; genetics, changes in hormone levels, illness, stress and grief. Depression impacts upon every aspect of our lives, as it drains energies, obliterates hopes and makes it hard to concentrate on those tasks that need to be done. However, although depression can be difficult to overcome, it can be done.
So how can we beat depression?
There are things that we can do to help us on the road to recovery. These steps are listed below.Get support
Surround yourself with those people who can support you physically and emotionally. Reach out to those friends and family members who can help you. To do so is not a sign of weakness, but rather of strength. Also remember that these people will want to help you. Go out with them for a drink or to the movies, and perhaps join a support group and take a friend along with you for added support.

Get up and be active
Exercise and being active is a crucial aspect of beating depression. Energy levels are increased, feelings of fatigue are reduced and you gain an inner peace and feeling of wellness. We all know about the surge in endorphins when we exercise and these are what help to give you the ‘feel good’ factor. Exercising also does not mean pumping iron in the gym for hours on end. It could be something as simple as taking a 30 minute walk, dancing in the kitchen to your favourite music or even attending a dance class with your partner. Whatever you choose, just be sure to be active every day.

A healthy lifestyle
Living a healthy lifestyle, including how much sleep we get and what we eat are powerful tools in beating depression. In doing so this can help reduce stress and to create a more relaxed self of wellbeing. Things that can help you to achieve this are by getting 8 hours of sleep a night, going outside each day and using relaxation techniques. Many people who have suffered with depression find that practicing mindfulness and yoga can help them with their daily struggles and promote an inner calm.

Do those things that used to make you happy
Think back to those activities that you used to love. For example, painting, crochet or reading, and try to take up those hobbies again. This will help to focus the mind, give your day a purpose and once they are achieved, you will gain a sense of achievement.

Eat healthily
What you eat has a great impact on how you feel. Ideally you need to aim for a balanced diet. It is also best to reduce your intake of caffeine, alcohol, refined sugars and saturated fats. Eating small meals regularly throughput the day can also help to improve energy levels and wellbeing.
Any of us can suffer from depression, but we can all do things to help beat it.

Why we should all have a positive outlook
Positive thinking is an emotional, physical and menial way in which to live. When we have negative thoughts and feelings, and use negative words, the mind becomes negative and in turn we become unhappy and disillusioned. This is the rocky road to failure and disappointment.

So why should we all be positive?

A positive daily outlook on life make us feel better about ourselves. It helps us gain more energy, to have more successes in life and as an additional bonus, our positivity radiates to influence those around us. Positivity really is the key to health and happiness.

So what are the major benefits of a positive lifestyle?

Improved health is a major benefit of inviting positivity into our lives. Wellbeing is improved, we feel better about ourselves and this is shown in the way in which we carry ourselves and the way in which we talk and respond to others around us. It affects us in a beneficial way.

Positive thinking is also contagious. Although this happens on a purely subconscious level, when we surround ourselves with positive people, we in turn feel positive. Therefore having a positive outlook helps to attract the right type of people, with more offers of help and encouragement. In essence being positive makes you a more popular person.

What is the key to a positive life?

There are a few things that we can all do to invite positivity into our lives. Firstly, we have to understand that happiness is a life choice. We have a right to be happy, and we are in control of this. Once we undemand this concept, we are then able to become positive people. We also need to get rid of the negativity in our lives, and that means attitudes and people. Finally, we also need to find positivity in the every day things that we do.

How we can achieve positivity each day?

Each day try and do the following activities. By doing them every day, they should become part of your routine and will feel more natural and spontaneous as time goes on.

Self-affirmation is were you tell yourself out loud all of your positive qualities. Such as, “I am a strong person and can do this.” ” Today is a good day and good things are going to happen.”

Keep a notebook handy and write down every day your positive traits and qualities. You can add to this and reaffirm daily all that is good about yourself.

Try and meditate. Mindfulness has been proven to effectively reduce stress which in turn increases positivity. Even five minutes of focussed meditation each day can help improve wellbeing and positivity.

Write down your goals. They don’t need to be anything earth shattering, but need to be important to you. Then each day you can reaffirm what those goals are and strive for them.

We should all have a positive outlook on life. It is good for our health and wellbeing, and is beneficial for those that we love.
