Meditation: The Power that Lifts
The most striking benefits of meditation are found in reports from ‘Pit Burial’ studies. Highly regarded Yogis of India have performed superhuman feats. These feats have been recorded and scientifically monitored.
One such feat is to be buried alive for one or more days.
A classical case in exhibition of this power is that of Saint Haridas of 19th century.
The book ‘Tibetan Yoga and Secret Doctrines’ narrate the incident.
Saint Haridas was buried for four months and afterwards disinterred living, under the careful supervision of the Maharaja of Lahore, Ranjit singh and Sir Claude Wade, the British General. Over the gave of the saint, who lay therein in a chest sealed by the Maharaja with the royal seal, barley-seed was sown and grew up in a place enclosed by a wall and guarded incessantly by armed sentinels. On the date of the interment the Yogi’s face had been shaven clean and when he was disinterred after the expiry of four months, his face was as smooth as on the day of his burial.
In 1986 Army Research Institute commissioned a review of the literature on meditation by Brener and Connally of the University of Hull in England.
Brener and Connally concluded that reported feats of endurance such as pit burials are likely to be due to the effect of meditation or deep relaxation on metabolism. A lowered metabolism may allow for survival under conditions of restricted oxygen availability. Effects on metabolism can be produced by controlling respiration in the manner practiced by yogis.
Rising up and floating in air known as levitation is one of the powers that a Yogi practicing Pranayama (control of breath) is said to acquire.
In a paper read at the International Psychical Congress held in Paris in 1927, Professor Von Schrenck Notzing, Professor of Psychology, University of Munich, described the case of a young man, who demonstrated this power of levitation acquired through yogic practice of breath control no less than 27 times!
More and more scientific experiments are being carried out to find out the benefits of Yoga.
Continuous practice of Meditation bestows mind power. It has been proved by yogis that the power acquired thus could lift them up both mentally and physically!

Without Concentration nobody could achieve anything. Here are the best quotes on Concentration.
1) The five essential entrepreneurial skills for success: Concentration, Discrimination, Organization, Innovation and Communication.
Harold S. Geneen
2) (To) have one’s ideas exclusively focused on one central interest
– Sigmund Freud
3) What does it take to be a champion? Desire, dedication, determination, concentration and the will to win.
4) Beware of dissipating your powers, strive constantly to concentrate them.
Johann W. Von Gothe
5) When you want a thing deeply, earnestly and intensely, this feeling of desire reinforces your will and arouses in you the determination to work for the desired object. When you have a distinct purpose in view, your work becomes of absorbing interest. You bend your best powers to it; you give it concentrated attention; you think of little else than the realization of this purpose; your will is stimulated into unusual activity, and as a consequence you do your work with an increasing sense of power.
6) Concentration is my motto – first honesty, then industry, then concentration.
7) When you write down your ideas you automatically focus your full attention on them. Few if any of us can write one thought and think another at the same time. Thus a pencil and paper make excellent concentration tools.
Michael Le Boeuf
8) I have admired two principles. The first one is to train hard and get into the best possible physical condition. The second is to forget all about the other fellow until you face him in the ring and the bell sounds for the fight.
9) Concentration of the mind is in a way common to both Knowledge and Yoga. Yoga aims at union of the individual with the universal, the Reality. This Reality cannot be new. It must exist even now, and it does exist.
10) The first law of success in this day, when so many things are clamoring for attention, is concentration – to bend all the energies to one point, and to go directly to that point, looking neither to the right nor to the left.

Body Fitness – With The Help Of A Trainer You Can Achieve Whatever You Want!
Practice makes perfection.Always a good trainer will teach you what to do and how to do to achieve a desired result.Body Fitness could also be achieved with the help of a good trainer. Weight loss is an important factor for many persons in the modern world.
Extreme Makeover is an American reality television series which premiered on ABC.This features a celebrity trainer helping very overweight individuals reach their weight loss goals. The Weight loss edition of the makeover show had become extremely popular in the United States. The trainer was Chris Powell whose charisma and enthusiasm was very much appreciated.
Sara is only 4’5” height. She was a nutrition speaker. By the time she was 37 years old, she weighed over 91 Kg. When she joined the Extreme Makeover programme, her first challenge was to climb the stairs of an amphitheater holding a 36 Kg weight. The staris came up past her kness. But she did not complain once. She kept going. By the time she reached the last step, the crowd cheered for her.
She followed her trainer’s instructions. At the end of the training session, she succeeded in loosing more than half of her body weight and becoming a runner, like she had always dreamed. One more case! Chantell Johnson from Illinois shed a staggering 72 Kg – the fighting weight of champion boxer Marvellous Marving Hageler – in just a year.
When she was picked by Extreme Makeover trainer Chris Powell, She weighed in at a hefty148.3kg.Miss Johnson agreed to follow the trainer’s strict and arduous exercise programme and at the 90th day, she shed a whopping 41Kg. She went to Paris to continue her studies. There she had lost a further 15.4 Kg. And at the nine-month weifh in it emerged that she has lost a total of 70.3Kg.
This made her eligible for skin removal surgery. She even ran 26.2 miles – a full marathon on her own through the streets of the French Capital. At the end it was found while she unveiled her new body in front of her family and friends, she had lost a total of 72 Kg.Miss Johnson wrote that she wanted two things. The legs of Serena Williams and the arms of Robin Roberts.
“Every exercise associated with achieving said results are painful. Lunges,Push-ups and burpees were originally created to break down new recruits (military) in under 48 hours.“My trainer achieves the same fear and obedience in the warm-up phase of our sessions. The reason I mention all of the facts above is because several people want to know my secret to success.
The answer is – Hours of hard work…. Everyday. The power of training is amazing. Following the advise strictly, one could achieve whatever she/he wants.

MANAGEMENT STORIES WHICH YOU MUST DEFINITELY READ!
It is my hobby to collect Management stories/ anecdotes for the past 30 years. They not only give you guidelines but also make you think deeply. We have seen three stories in my last article. Now three more…Happy Reading!
Positive Thinking and Negative Thinking! What is the difference between positive thinking and negative thinking:Many years ago two salesmen were sent by a British shoe manufacturer to Africa to investigate and report back on market potential. The first salesman reported back, “There is no potential here – nobody wears shoes.”The second salesman reported back, “There is massive potential here – nobody wears shoes.”
Morals of the story:
A single situation may be viewed in two quite different ways – negatively or positively.A situation’s problems and disadvantages may be really your opportunities and benefits.
Sharing critical info!
A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.
The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Smith, the next-door neighbor. Before she says a word, Smith says, ‘I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel.’
After thinking that she has a chance earning $800 within a minute, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Smith, after a few seconds, Smith hands her $800 and leaves.
The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.
When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, ‘Who was that?’‘It was Smith the next door neighbor,’ she replies.‘Great,’ the husband says, ‘Did he give the $800 he owes me? He promised me that he would give it today!’
Moral of the story:
Do not share any critical information unless you understand the need of opposite person. It may or may not help him but surely won’t help you. Never ever share your secret with a stranger without consulting your husband/elders!
Not everyone is your enemy!
A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and she fell to the ground into a large field.
While she was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on her.
As the frozen bird laid there in the pile of cow dung, she began to realize how warm it was.
The dung was actually thawing her out!
She lays there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat hears the bird singing and comes to investigate.
Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug her out and ate her.
Morals of the story:
Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
And when you’re in deep shit, keep your mouth shut!

MANAGEMENT STORIES WHICH YOU MUST DEFINITELY READ! – 1
It is my hobby to collect Management stories/ anecdotes for the past 30 years. They not only give you guidelines but also make you think deeply. Here are the first three stories which I enjoyed very much.Happy Reading!!Your Boss and You : Always let your Boss have the first Say!
A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out.The Genie says, ‘I’ll give each of you just one wish.’‘Me first! Me first!’ says the admin clerk. ‘I wantto be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.’Puff! She’s gone. ‘Me next! Me next!’ says the sales rep. ‘I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.’
Puff! He’s gone.‘OK, you’re up,’ the Genie says to the manager.
The manager smiles and say, ‘I want those two back in the office after the lunch-time.’
Moral of the story:
Always let your boss have the first say. For doing nothing you must be very very high!An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, ‘Can I also sit like you and do nothing?’The eagle answered: ‘Sure, why not.’So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.Staying at top is not easy! A Turkey was chatting with a Bull.‘I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree’ sighed the Turkey, ‘but I haven’t got the energy.’ ‘Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?’ replied the Bull. They’re packed with nutrients.’
The Turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave her enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, she reached the second branch.
Finally after a fourth night, the Turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree..She was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot her out of the tree.
Moral of the story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won’t help you stay there for long.

Power of Yoga II : Bhagavan Ramana Maharishi
The sage of Thiruvannamalai, India the great saint Ramana Maharishi has never revealed His true powers. But yet devotees were aware of His greatness. At the time of His death the devotees got the firm confirmation that verily He is a great saint. The ancient Hindu looked upon the Nakshatras ( meaning Stars ) as the abodes of the Gods. The Taittiriya Brahmana (I.5.2.5) declares that “Devaktahaha vai nakshatrani” .The Satapatha Brahmana also declares that the “stars are the lights of religious men”.The great rishis believed that one day they themselves would pass on to one of the heavenly luminaries.
In this context let us see what had happened at the moment Ramana left his body.In 1949 a small nodule appeared below the elbow of his left arm. This was cut. But within a month it returned and it was recognized as a tumour.Aruthur Osborne in his biography of ‘Ramana Maharishi’ says:Did Ramana really suffer? He said to one devotee:”Where is pain if there is no mind?”
He expounded a verse from the Yoga Vasistham: “The Gnani (meaning true Yogi) who has found himself as formless pure Awareness in unaffected though the body be cleft with a sword. Sugarcandy does not lose its sweetness though broken or crushed”Indeed when he was operated the doctors were amazed at Maharishi’s indifference to pain. When doctors pronounced failure of the treatment, Ramana was asked to say himself what treatment should be tried. He said, “Have I ever asked for any treatment? It is you who want this and that for me, so it is for you to agree about it among yourselves. If I were asked I should always say, as I have said from the beginning, that no treatment is necessary. Let things take their course.”
April 14th 1950.
Osborne explains the last moments of Ramana :
A group of devotees sitting on the veranda outside the hall began singing ‘Arunachala Siva’. On hearing it Ramana’s eyes opened and shone. He gave a brief smile of indescribable tenderness. From the outer edges of his eyes tears of bliss rolled down. One more deep breath and no more. There was no struggle, no spasm, no other sign of death; only that the next breath did not come”
The time was 8.47 p.m.
At the very moment an enormous star had trailed slowly across the sky. Many had seen it even as far away as Madras, and felt what it portended. It passed to the north-east towards the peak of Arunachala hill.As per the the Taittiriya Brahmana and the Satapatha Brahmana the greatest of the great saints, Ramana became a star Indeed he has proved the ancient texts in modern times.
We can see one more incident to know who is He? T.K.Sundaresa Iyer was an ardent devotee of Ramana, recorded an interesting incident in his book, ‘At the feet of Bhagavan’:Once Ramana was in the Virupaksha Cave on the Thiruvannamalai Hill. One evening after 7 p.m., they were all coming down the Hill to go round Arunachala. The other devotees had all gone in advance; only Sri Kavyakanta Ganapati Muni was in the company of Ramana, and they were slowly climbing down the steps from the cave.
When they had walked a few steps, all of a sudden Ramana stopped, and with HimGanapathy muni as well. The full moon was shining bright in the last in the starry sky.Pointing to the moon and the beautiful sky, Ramana said: “Nayana! (Ramana maharishi used to call him affectionately thus) If the moon and all the stars have their being in ME, and the sun himself goes round My hip with his satellites, who am I? Who am I?”This remark of Ramana made his blessed disciple envisage the Master as Great Person of the Vedas, as described in ‘Sri Rudra’, the ‘Purusha Sukta’ and the ‘Skamba Sukta’,
and the Atharva Veda. He is verily all these and That beyond; there is nothing that is not He.Ganapathy Muni later made this revelation known to all devotees.Ramana’s powers are indescribable.

Zen Way For Perfect Peace and Harmony – Nagarajan
In order to learn Zen you have to unlearn first. Nan-in, a Japanese master during the Meiji era (1868-1912), received a university professor who came to inquire about Zen. Nan-in served tea. He poured his visitor’s cup full, and then kept on pouring. The professor watched the overflow until he no longer could restrain himself. “It is overfull. No more will go in!” “Like this cup,” Nan-in said, “you are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup?” If you want to know the teachings of the Zen master, you have to empty what you have in your mental cup.
Zen practice developed in India as an offshoot of Buddhism. A Zen master from India, Bodhidharma of Mahayana stream of Buddhism is believed to have traveled to China where he met the Chinese Emperor Wu in 475 A.D. The emperor was Wu was deeply fascinated by Bodhidhrama’s teachings on meditation. When this dhyan or ch’an in Chinese traveled to Japan it came to be known as Zen.
Zen is an abbreviation of the Japanese word of Zenna which means Dhyan or Meditation. If you want to know your true nature, sit Zazen. Zazen is the actualization of your true nature.
Zazen is the mind control technique. When you practice mind control, sit in the proper position stay perfectly tranquil and do not permit the least movement of your mind to disturb you.In our daily living there are lots of distractions, both criticism and admiration. Zazen makes us to handle both admiration and criticism in our day to day life.
Buddhism is to learn serenity and tranquility directly, and to practice it. For this we have to empty the mental cup which is full of negative thoughts and feelings. The enlightenment or Satori or self realization is perfect peace and harmony. You are Buddha, free from all sufferings. Zen practice will make you to realize this truth.

One Paragraph That Explains Life !
Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS caused by infected blood he received during a heart surgery in 1983. From the world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed: “Why does God have to select you for such a bad disease”. To this, Arthur Ashe replied: The world over fifty million children start playing tennis, five million learn to play tennis, five lakhs learn professional tennis, fifty thousand come to the circuit, five thousand reach the grand slam, fifty reach Wimbledon, four get to the semi-final and two to the finals. When I was holding the Wimbledon Cup, I never asked God, “Why me?” So, today in pain I should not be asking God: “Why me?”
